John Frew

John Stuart “Jack” Frew passed away on Monday December 12, 2011 in Alton.

He was the son of Stuart and Louise Frew of Gillespie, IL.

 

He resided in Godfrey, IL with his wife of 54 years, Carole Lee Frew.  He is survived by one  daughter and son-in-law and three sons and daughters-in-law, Lisa & Richard Mosby of Grafton, IL, Michael J & Lisa Frew of Glen Carbon, IL,  Stuart E. & Denise Frew of Sedalia, MO, and John N. & Erin Frew of Godfrey, IL.  He was the Grandfather of Ryan, Zachary, Caroline and Noah Frew of Glen Carbon, IL, Taylor and Colin Frew of Sedalia, MO and Vivienne and Jack Frew of Godfrey, IL.

Mr. Frew was with Olin Corporation for over 30 years where he was Vice President of Purchasing, Vice President of Administration, Director of Eastern Manufacturing, Production Control Manager and Chief Industrial Engineer.  He also worked for Hughes Aircraft and Dow Chemical.  Jack and his wife Carole were owners of Carole Frew’s Bridal in Godfrey, IL.

He was on the Board of Directors for Magna Bank, American Red Cross, Alton Growth Association, Alton United Fund, Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Alton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Frew was a member of Southern Illinois Industrial Association, Illinois Manufacturing Association, River Bend Civic Progress, Madison County Police Association, Alton Godfrey Rotary Club and Lockhaven Country Club.

He was a graduate of Gillespie High School, Gillespie, IL; where he was inducted into the original “Wall of Fame.”  Mr. Frew was a graduate of the University of Illinois with a Mechanical Engineering Degree, a M.B.A. from St. Louis University, and The Institute for Management at Northwestern University, Chicago, IL.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9 am until 10:30 am Friday at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 11 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. Tom Cannon OMV celebrant.

Cremation rites will follow and Inurnment will be private.
