Glen Smith

Glen T. Smith, 65, went to be with the Lord at 1:25 am Monday, December 12, 2011 at Relais Bonne Eau in Edwardsville.  

 

He was born on August 3, 1946 in Dent County, MO, the son of Henry Harrison and Roda Elizabeth (Watson) Thompson.  Upon their deaths, he was adopted by Charles R. and Ruby C. (Hausman) Smith.

He married Marilyn J. Gross on September 2, 1966 in East Alton. She survives.   

Glen served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was a plant operator at BOC Gasses, formerly of East Alton, now in Hartford.  He worked there for over 20 years, retiring in 1992.  He was a member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto.  An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Glen enjoyed traveling and time spent with friends. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participating in school activities.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Ruby Smith of Bethalto; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Todd Ballard of Bethalto; a son and daughter-in-law, David Smith and Mary Cheragotti of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren, Hannah Grace, Adelaide Joy and Andrey Nazarov Ballard; a sister and her husband, Betty Geraldine and Russell Pendegraft of Dent County, MO; a brother and his wife, Jack and Sharon Thompson of O’Fallon, IL and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Clifford Thompson, Vernon Thompson, Lorraine Wilson, Alma Missey, Donald Thompson and Richard A. Smith.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be held at 10 am Thursday, December 15, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Schneider officiating, assisted by Jimmy Bargeron of Glenville, GA.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Relais Bonne Eau Hospice House in Edwardsville.
