Helen M. Alexander, 92, died at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
Born September 12, 1919 in Portageville, Mo. She was the daughter of Charles and Clara (Moon) Alexander. She retired from Owens Illinois Glass in Alton. She married Gerald C. Alexander on July 17, 1948 in Alton. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1989.
Surviving is one daughter Janet Schallenberg of Cody, Wyoming; a grandson Jerry Schallenberg and his wife Teresa of Palatka, FL; four great-grandchildren, Mary Wilkinson of Palatka, Fl., Jerri Rae Maynard of Palatka Fl., Clara Schallenberg of Durant, Ok., and Guy Schallenberg of Palatka FL.; and numerous great-great grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her three brothers; Nevel Maher, Paul Sawyers, Cecil Sawyers and three sisters; Aline Belcher, Mavis Lawrence, and Betty Silveus.
Visitation will be from 10 until funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday November, 30 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. Richard Farrow officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The American Cancer Society.
