Jacqueline Catherine Sweeney, 88, passed away at 6:45 am Friday October 28, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
She was born on September 8, 1923 in Alton the eldest child and only daughter of Alein H. & Estella R. (Bleem) Stork.
She married Edward L. Sweeney on January 14, 1942 in Huntsville, AL. Their daughter is Judith Sweeney. After many years they divorced. She later married Robert W. Sweeney on April 27, 1974 in Alton.
Jacqueline was employed for many years as administrative secretary for Monticello Jr. College, continuing on with Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, before retiring. She enjoyed the history of Alton, family genealogy, working in her garden and the family pets. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Alton.
Her daughter Judith Sweeney survives her.
Preceding Jacqueline in death were her younger brother Alein W. Stork and her parents. She was also preceded in death by her first and second husbands.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 pm Friday November 4, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Father David Boase officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
