Clara B. Garrett, 87, passed away at 12:35 pm Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Bethalto Care Center.
She was born on May 8, 1924 in New Arkansas, AR, the daughter of George Henry and Effie Jane (Shownes) Rawlings.
She married Harry D. Garrett on November 9, 1940 in Malden, MO. He passed away January 26, 1996.
Clara was employed at Bethalto Rexall Drug as a manager for 15 years, Katz Drug Company in St. Louis as a manager for 19 years and McSane Drug Company in Mt. Vernon, MO as a cosmetics manager for 5 years before retiring at Rexall in December of 1985. She was a member of the Bethel General Baptist Church, enjoyed making flower arrangements, loved her work at the pharmacy and most of all loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry & Sandy Garrett of Moro and Stanley & Judy Garrett of Bunker Hill; six grandchildren, Debbie and Bobby Smith, Lisa and Chris Fuller, Shannon Garrett, Larry Garrtett Jr., Michael Garrett and Timothy Garrett; seven great grandchildren, Darrell Ray Park, Derrick Wayne Park, Julia Lynn Bertilino, Kelsy Garrett, Brianna Garrett, Austin Fuller and Brandon Fuller and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Millard, D.L., Virgil, G.H., E.L. and Loys Rawlings and three sisters, Vinedia Abernathy, Vonedia Aberathy and Pansy Whitworth.
Visitation will be from 10 until time of funeral service at 12 Noon at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto on Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the Bethel General Baptist Church of Bethalto or the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
