Barbara Ruth Shaw, 80, died at 5:12 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton after a period of declining health, just one day shy of her 57th wedding anniversary.She was born in Murphysboro on Feb. 25, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Edgar Ray & Wilma Grace (Wilcox) Basden.She graduated from East Alton-Wood River Community High School, and married John Thomas Shaw on Oct. 15, 1954 in Jerseyville and their nearly 57 year marriage was spent raising their family in the Chesterfield-Shipman-Jerseyville areas.Surviving are her husband, John Shaw of Shipman; six children & their spouses, Merna J. Scarborough of Oak Grove, Mo., Cheryl A. & Sam Huff of Chesterfield, Paul E. & Linda Shaw of Carlinville, John Steven & Vickie Shaw of Carlinville, Regina & Kenneth Helmers of Shipman, and Robert Francis & Jodi Shaw of Alton; 20 Grandchildren; 23 Great Grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Reed of Godfrey; two brothers, Bill Basden of Wood River, and Herbert Basden of Hartford.She was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Katrina Bilbruck, a great granddaughter, Katie Lynn King; a son in law, John C. Richey; four brothers, Clarence, Robert, David and Abe Basden; and three sisters, Eula, Mary Catherine & Helen.Visitaion will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday.  Her nephews, Rev. Clyde Shaw and Rev. Terry Turner will officiate.Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.Memorials may be given to the family in care of the funeral home.
