Erika Delp, 81, passed away unexpectedly at 10:47 am Friday, August 12, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on October 18, 1929 in Ober-Ramstadt Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Anna (Stern) Stegmann.
Roy and Erika (Stegmann) met in her home town, where he was stationed in Ober-Ramstadt, Germany on March 29, 1947. She came over to the USA in August 1949 and two weeks later they were married on August 20, 1949. They celebrated 59 years of marriage. Roy passed away July 7, 2009.
Erika was employed at Owens IL in plant 7 in the packing department for 5 years. She was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Bethalto and the Alton VFW Ladies AUX. She enjoyed crocheting, watching movies, traveling, cooking and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Larry Delp of Godfrey, Shirley & Randy Durbin of East Alton, Norman Delp and Lana Scheffel-Delp of Brighton, Roger & Tina Delp of Sorento, IL and Renate & Phil Stassi of Roxana; 9 grandchildren and their spouses, Carrie Delp, Julie Eaker, Jason & Angela Eaker, Kyle & Emily Delp, Erin & Matt Jackson, Stephanie Burney, Valarie & Cory Lucas, Kimberly Stassi and Julie Delp; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Hilda Keil of Germany; two brothers, Heinz and Horst Stegmann both of Germany and Several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Olga Stegmann and Hedwig Stegmann and two brothers, Rudy and Walter Stegmann.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Chip Faulkner officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the 1st Baptist Church of Bethalto.
