Robert “Bob” Earl Downing, 67, passed away at 3:30 pm Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea in Scottsdale, AZ.
He was born on November 18, 1943 in Louisville, KY, the son of Henry and Helen (Scott) Downing.
He married Mary Lou Bridges on July 6, 2003 in Alton, IL. She survives.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic at Laclede Steel Company until his retirement. He also owned a gift shop called the Milton Peddler in Alton. He was a member of the Alton Moose Lodge #951, Alton Eagles F.O.E. 254 and the Alton VFW Post 1308. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He loved his dogs, Coco and Taco Lynette and most all spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mary Lou Downing of Alton, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Rodger and Angela Downing of Oran, MO, Tina Downing of Roxana and Terry and Tammy Downing of Godfrey; his first wife, Janice (Twichell) Downing of Alton; four stepchildren, Keith and Pat Moore, Jeff and Jan Moore, David and Shaunna Moore and Dorothy Hailey; eight grandchildren, Brad Beck, Anna Trunell, James Downing, Christa Corethers, Samantha Downing, Brooklyn Downing, Michael Vinyard and Jarrod Downing; five step grandchildren, Tara, Emily, Brianna, Abby and Zac; one great granddaughter, Sierra Trunell; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carol and Jimmy Lee of Crofton, KY and Lillie Fletcher of Columbia, MO; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Ann Downing of Alabaster, AL; a sister-in-law, Koto Downing of Cottage Hills and his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Rodger “Scott”, Charles and Cecil Downing.
A memorial visitation will be from 1:00 pm to services at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
