William Wallace Jones, 78, passed away at 7:30 am May 9, 2011 at Christian Hospital North East.
He was born in Alton on November 13, 1932 the son of Quincy Wallace & Emma Henrietta (Wagmen) Jones.
He married Ima “Jean” Hembrow on August 28, 1954 at the Fidelity Baptist Church. She survives.
He entered the Army in Nov. 1955 at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and served four years in the Vietnam War and where he received the bronze star and obtained the rank of SFC-E7. He was a member of Alton VFW Post 1308 and a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. After retiring from the Army after 20 years of service, he worked for the US Corp of engineers, retiring after 20 years.
In addition to his wife, Ima “Jean” Jones, he is also survived by three children and spouses, Suprina & Chris Schmidt, Bill & Susie Jones and Jeff & Julie Jones, all of Bethalto; three grandchildren, Miles Schmidt, Rachel Jones, and Will Jones, all of Bethalto; one sister, Shirley Eades of Godfrey, one brother and sister-in-law, Joe & Delores Jones of North Carolina, two sisters-in-law, Shirley Baiter of Bethalto and Jessye Moran of Wood River and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Will and Henrietta Hembrow, two special brother-in-laws, Al Baiter and Russ Moran.
Cremation rite will be accorded.
Inurnment will be at 11 am Saturday May 14, 2011 at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in Godfrey with Fr. James Flach officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness.
