Veronica Kern

Veronica E. Kern, 98, died at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Bethalto Care Center.  Born August 13, 1912 in Bluffton, MN, she was the daughter of Herman N. and Mary (Heltemes) Rohr.  She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton and served on the Altar Society.  She was one of the first residents of the Hillcrest Apartments and lived there for 28 years.  On October 1, 1938 in Blue Grass, MN, she married Jerome Joseph Kern.  He preceded her in death on August 30, 1970. 

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law and one son and daughter-in-law, Janice and Rex Harnetiaux of Alton, Judith and Jerry Williams of Alton, Jackie and Jim Rankin of Deming, NM, James F. and HiSuk Kern of Spokane, Washington, and JoAnn and David Miller of Moorhead, MN, eight grandchildren, Mike Harnetiaux, Eric Harnetiaux, Laura Emmons, Jennifer Baldwin, Jason Rankin, Shawn Miller, Jessica Anicas, and Emily Kern, and four great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, and five sisters. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton.  Father Peter Donohoe will officiate.  Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey. 

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or Masses at SS Peter & Paul.  Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
