William Wilson

William W. Wilson, age 87, passed away at 11:22 pm Thursday, April 28, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital.

He was born on February 19, 1924 in Eldorado, IL, the son of the late Harvey Louis and Eva (Poppins) Wilson. 

William married Marcella (McCann) September 1, 1946 at the Upper Alton Baptist Church.  She survives.

He graduated from Alton High School in 1943.  Bill served his country with the 2109th Army Air Force unit between 1943 and 1945, and was on active duty in England serving as a top turret gunner engineer on a B-24. A 60+ year member of UABC he was a lifetime member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #25 and also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Southern Illinois, a member of Ainad Shriner’s Temple, Alton/Wood River Shrine Club, VFW Alton Post 1308, a member of the Hospital Unit of the Shrine, a member of the Walton Eastern Star, and Amarath. For a number of years he taught driving courses at Senior Service and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He retired from National Life and Accident Insurance Co. in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella; a Son Dennis and his wife Margaret of Evanston, IL; a daughter Janet and her husband Randall Treadwell of Dayton, OH; three grandchildren, Joanne Chatlos, Jennifer Rendon, Brian Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Art Chatlos, Marcella Chatlos, Owen Butler, Abigail Rendon; a Sister Carita Deerfield and her husband Richard of Springfield, MO; several nieces and nephews, cousins, brothers and sister in laws, and many life long friends.

His parents, his brothers David and Gerald, and an infant son, Daniel, preceded him in death.
 
In celebration of his life, a memorial service will be at ___ at the Upper Alton Baptist Church. 

Per his whishes cremation rites where accorded.

Memorials may be directed to St. Louis Shriner’s Hospital.
