Raymond Fansler

Raymond P. Fansler, age 91, passed away at 2:10 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at his residence in Alton.

He was born on December 3, 1919 in Alton, the son of the late Wayne & Ina (Ballard) Fansler.

He served in the Navy on a destroyer during WWII and retired from Illinois Power Company.  He regularly attended Calvary Baptist Church in Alton and loved sports of every kind.  He tried out for the St. Louis Brown’s Baseball team. He had a beautiful yard full of flowers and had wonderful neighbors that loved and cared for him.  He loved the trips to Maine with his wife and her sister and her husband.  He loved going to Florida for the winter and already had made arrangements for next winter.

Raymond married Dorothy Young on February 8, 1941 in West Memphis, TN; she preceded him in death on February 13, 1999.

He is survived by: two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra & Dr. Robert Harpole, of Florissant, MO, and Sharon & Martin Voss of Punta Gorda, FL; four grandchildren and spouses: Lisa & Greg Lay of Chesterfield, MO, Steven & Carolyn Harpole of Creve Coeur, MO, and Sarah & Rob Hempen of Webster Groves, MO; three great grandchildren: Hannah Harpole of Creve Coeur, MO, Allison Harpole of  Creve Coeur, MO, Steven Lay of Chesterfield, MO, and Natalie Lay of Chesterfield, MO.
 
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday April 29, 2011 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf  Funeral Home in Alton where funeral service will be  held at 10 am Saturday with Rev.  Andre` Dobson officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.

Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or Salvation Army.
