James E. Ackley, 81, died at 6:17 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. Born July 13, 1929, he was the son of Wilburn and Helen (Bosaw) Ackley. He served in the U.S. Army and retired from Engineered Air Systems in St. Louis as a Foreman in 1991.
On June 11, 1955 in Beardstown, he married the former Rhoda Shipley. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Bruce Cobb of Chattanooga, TN, and Patricia and Art Gage of Brighton, four grandchildren, Tricia Cottrell of Baltimore, MD, Alyssa Cottrell of Godfrey, Jennifer Dooley and husband Jared of Chattanooga, TN, and Kimberly Cobb of Chattanooga, TN, two step-grandchildren, Thomas Gage of Brighton and Scott Gage of Brighton, one great grandchild, Alanah McDonald of Godfrey, one step great grandchild, Lane Gage of Brighton, and one brother, Charles Ackley of Ravenna, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by a son, James Edward Ackley at 11 months of age.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Valhalla Memorial Park. Jay B. Ritter will officiate.
