Joseph J. Massalone, 62, died at 1:15 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family. Born June 5, 1948 in Alton, he was the son of Vincent C. and Virginia (Long) Massalone. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1977 and was a 4th Degree Knight at the Alton Knights of Columbus. He retired as a salesman from Wholesale Telecom Communications in St. Louis in 2010.
On August 19, 1967 in Alton, he married the former Sharon Maxeiner. She survives. Also surviving is one son and two daughters, Vincent Massalone and his wife Tonya of South Roxana, Dena Marshall and husband Bo of Godfrey, and Angela Walz and husband Robert of Godfrey, seven grandchildren, Kaleigh Glenn, Ashley Massalone, Ginny Massalone, Ashten Marshall, Will Marshall, Elaina Marshall and Brady Walz, his mother-in-law, Alice VonBergen of Alton, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
