Evelyn M. McKinney, age 95, passed away at 3:30 pm, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at her residence in Tampa, FL.

She was born on July 8, 1915 in Alton, to the late George and Carrie (Johnson) Gerbig.

Evelyn married Cecil Harrold “Mac” McKinney in Springfield, IL on August 15, 1936 he preceded her in death on December 21, 1969.

Evelyn was  a graduate from Alton High class of 1933, was an assistant and helped run the Boys Town of IL in Grafton for 15 years from 1955 to 1969.

She was a member of the Alton/Godfrey Methodist Church many years ago, Grafton Womens Club, Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star.  She loved to sew, cook, was a great collector of antiques, loved indoor gardening growing African violets but especially loved spending time with family and friends.  In 1990 she participated for one year at the National Institute of Health in the Alzheimer study and received a special certificate which was in Washington DC. 

She is survived by one daughter Mary Katherine and her husband retired Navy Captain John Bloomer of Santa Barbara CA, one foster son Retired Army Sergeant Kent and his wife Gayle Crow of Colorado Spring, CO, one sister Mary and husband John Beard of Godfrey, one sister in law Linda Gerbig of Godfrey, one granddaughter Anne and husband Todd Pazier of Santa Barbara, CA, two great grandchildren Aiden and Cadence and several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Her parents, husband, three brothers Arthur, George and Robert Gerbig and one sister Julia Gerbig preceded her in death.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 23, 2011 from 9:00 am till time of service at 10 am, at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey with Pastor Don Long officiating.

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
 
Memorials may be directed to the local chapter of the Alzheimer Association.
