Robert D. “Bobby” Champlin, 54, was called home to his Lord at 8:20 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 after a long struggle with multiple myeloma. Born August 29, 1956 in Alton, he was the son of Marvin “Chalk” and Betty (Feezel) Champlin. Robert graduated from Alton High School in 1974. For many years he served as youth minister at the First Christian Church of Alton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Roberts, whom he married on November 4, 1990. He will be sorely missed by Chloe and Annie, their Shih Tzu doggies. Bob was a woodworker, a fisherman, and model car builder. Also surviving is a son, Josh Champlin, a brother, Charles Champlin and his wife Brenda of Cottage Hills, one niece, Lisa Eichmiller and husband Jacob, and three nephews, Jon Watson and wife Linsey, Mark Logan and wife Allison, and Matt Logan, and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Walter Schwane of Camas, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Donna Grant, and two nieces, Andrea Watson and Penny Trigg.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Alton.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Jim Johnson will officiate.
