Lena Houston Plue, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 3:15 am at her residence with her family by her side.
She was born on February 22, 1922 in Truman, AR to the late Herman and Laura (Bailey) Merideth.
Lena married Alfred R. Houston and he preceded her in death in 1971, she then married Clarence Plue on July 1, 1983 and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1991.
She enjoyed playing bingo, quilting and sewing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters; Phyllis and her spouse Raymond Baker of Lakeview, AR, and Rebecca Emery of Wood River, IL. two sons and their spouses; Ronald and Shirley Houston of Edwardsville, IL and Kenneth and Judy Houston of Staunton, IL, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren, three sisters; Erma Jean Strange of Pekin, IL, Betty Darlene Davidson of Pekin, IL, and Shirley and her spouse Willie Davidson of E. Prairie, MO, and three Brothers and their spouses; James and Katherine Merideth of Monette, AL, Jerry and Wilma Merideth of Fort Hood, TX. And Jack and Beverly Merideth of Pekin, IL.
Lena was preceded in death by; her parents, husband’s, and two brothers; Arlan Merideth and Mickey Merideth, and one sister; Naomi Dockery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, on, Friday March 25, 2011 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home, in Alton, IL. Where the funeral service will be on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 10 am with the Rev. Timothy Keller officiating.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery, in Alton, IL.
