Grace E. Thole, age 84, passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Rosewood Care Center of Alton.
She was born in Golden Eagle, IL. on December 15, 1926, the daughter of the late William E. and Mollie E. (Boland) Blackburn.
Grace married Frank J. Thole on January 6, 1956 in Alton, IL. He preceded her in death on March 18, 2004.
She was employed at the Olin Matheson Company in East Alton, IL in the Rim Fire Packing Division, retiring after 40 years, in 1988. She was a past member of the Brown Street Baptist church in Alton, IL. She was a member of the Westerner Club, and the Skeet Shooting Club. Grace and Frank enjoyed square dancing with the Hoedowner’s Square Dancing Club. She also enjoyed quilting, golfing, and spending time with her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren.
Grace is survived by two daughters and their spouses; Mary Ann and Terry Crawford of Wood River, and Tammy and Robert Carter of Godfrey, a daughter-in-law and her spouse; Melanie and Gary Nickens of Alton, five grandchildren; Jessica Boyd, Wendy Crawford, Brian Crawford, Matt Carter and Mollie Carter, six great grandchildren; Jack Boyd, Elise Boyd, Madison Pace, Ashley Crawford, Jaxson Crawford, and Parker Crawford and many nieces and nephews, and “Bear” her minature Dachshund.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, William B. Blackburn, a son. Robert w. Pace and a grandson Jeffery Thole Pace (J.T.) .
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10 am, Friday, February 25, 2011 at the funeral home with the Rev. Nicole Cox officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL.
Memorials may be made to Senior Services in the Transportation Department or Meals on Wheels.
