Fern Ellen Agney, 68, passed away at 7:52 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2011, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 2, 1942, the daughter of the late Edward and Mamie (Stogsdall) Howard.
She married Thomas S. Agney on March 17, 1963, in Hillsboro, Illinois and he survives. Other survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Nanci Beth and Terry Mott of Bunker Hill, Illinois, Kathryn L. Agney and her companion Darryl Herron of Bethalto, Illinois, three grandchildren: Nickolas A. Mott, Jessica L. Mott, Adaam Agney and his wife: Katelyn, a great grandson: Thomas A. Agney and an expectant great granddaughter: Elizabeth Marie, one sister: Hazel Agney of Bunker Hill, Illinois, two dogs: Gizmo and Rascal, and several special nieces and nephews.
She was employed at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home in the administrative offices. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fosterburg, BPW, the Alton - Wood River Zonta Club, the Women's History Coalition, she volunteered at the caravan resale shop for the Oasis Woman's Center. She served on several committees throughout Alton Memorial Hospital and Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Clarence Howard, Henry Howard, Ervin Howard, and six sisters: Lily Venable, Violet Everett, Ethel Horton, Edith Friesland, Annie Smith, and Emma Tisdale.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the funeral home. Pastor Troy Crain will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Activity Fund at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home or the American Cancer Society.
