Opal G. Dodd, age 84, passed away at 10:50 am on Friday February 4, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born on December 12, 1926 in Wood River, the daughter of Herbert & Audra (Mosby) Walker.
She married Glenn “Earl” Dodd in 1951 and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2004.
She retired from the Bethalto Public Library after 20 years where she first started as a volunteer and then became Head Librarian. She was very proud to have helped get the library tax supported then into the Library System. Her final act was to move the Library from its old location at the village hall to its new location on Prairie Street. She loved the library and all her patrons.
She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Bethalto, Zonta Business Women’s organization and Riverwinds Storytellers
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Shari & Dana Silveus of Dorsey; six grandchildren, Christine Sanders & Brian Dodd, Michele Wells, Tom Silveus, Jon Silveus, and Bonnie Silveus; four great grandchildren, Tommy, Sam, Steven, and James Silveus.
Cremation rights will be accorded.
Memorial visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday February 8, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
