Fred Blasingim

Fred G. Blasingim, 76, passed away at 2:30 am Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Christian Northeast Hospital in St. Louis, MO with his loving family by his side. 

He was born on August 31, 1934 in Fulton County, KY, the son of Harve and Ida (Goff) Blasingim. 

He married Dorothy “Dottie” Lane May 23, 1953 in Alton. She survives. 

Fred served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.  He worked as an adjuster for Olin Corporation in East Alton for 40 years, retiring in 1997.  He was a member of Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. He was a member of the Migratory Waterfowl Hunters, Inc., Alton Eagles F.O.E. 254 and Ducks Unlimited.  He enjoyed the outdoors, duck hunting, fishing and he loved the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and Rams Football. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Debbie and Larry Lyons of Marana, AZ, Gene and Shela Blasingim of Bethalto, Vicki and Brad Hamlin of Godfrey, Karen and Steve Masiero of Cottage Hills and Cindy and Don “Butch” Palmer of Alton; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy and Joe Tosetti, Amy and Greg Throne, Chance and Carthelle Lyons, Josh Hamlin, Mindy and Chad Day, Kerry Blasingim, Traci Baumgartner, Brandi and Jason Hartman, Ashley Palmer and Amanda Palmer; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother, Edd Blasingim of Albion, MI; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” and Ray Lane of Alton; several nieces and nephews and other extended family members. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons, Randy Blasingim and Erik Blasingim and five brothers, Otis, Calvin, George, Bill and Harvey Jr. Blasingim.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Bethalto.  Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the church with Pastor Phil Schneider and Pastor Eric Scottberg officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with full military rites given by Alton VFW Post 1308. 

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
