Maurice E. “Smutt” Pfeffer, 87, died at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Eldercare of Alton.  He was born on March 11, 1923 in Alton.  He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired as an electrician from Laclede Steel.  He was a member of the former St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  On December 6, 1943 in Alexandria, LA, he married the former Naeoma “Babe” Wooldridge.  She preceded him in death on October 27, 2009. 

Surviving are five nieces and their husbands, Marlene and David Munson of Tuolumne, CA, Wanda and Ron Swan of Portland, OR, Linda and Fred Emert-Grimm of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Jane and Jim Pitts of Alton, and Jody and Kenny Harmon of Alton, 10 great nieces and nephews, 15 great great nieces and nephews, and a sister, Arlene Gosling of Godfrey. 

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. 

Memorials may be made to the 5A’s Animal Shelter.
