Elizabeth “Betty” McCleery, 96, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton. Born June 12, 1914 in Chicago, she was the daughter of James and Agnes (Banos) Beregi. She was a lifetime member of the Abundant Life Church and a member of the Westerner Club. She retired in 1979 as an inspector after 28 years of service with the Olin Corporation. On December 20, 1944 in Alton, she married Raymond L. McCleery. He preceded her in death on September 27, 1989.
Surviving is a daughter, Linda Lea Vandever and her husband David of Potrero, CA, two grandchildren, Carey Davis and Christine Huestis both of Sumner, WA, three great grandchildren, Jeremy Long, Jessie Long and Joshua Huestis, four great great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Dorothy Beregi of Tucson, AZ and a nephew, James Beregi. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Rae McCleery, a granddaughter, Connie Sue Feldman, two brothers, James Beregi and Alexander Beregi, and two sisters, Irene Peterson and Helen Beregi.
Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton followed by graveside services at Upper Alton Cemetery. Reverend Robert Beloit will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Fellowship Church in Bunker Hill.
