James H. McClenahan, 89, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Eldercare of Alton.
Born Dec. 10, 1921 in Dupo, Ill., he was the son of James William and Melbo Lucille (Vallowe) McClenahan, both now deceased.
He married Loretta May McDowell June 26, 1945 in Granite City. She survives.
A U.S. Marine veteran, he served during World War II. He was a past State Commander and Quartermaster of the Illinois VFW, and was a member of the Wood River VFW Post #2859. He worked for Illinois Terminal Railroad as an electrician for 34 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Wood River Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, surviving are two daughters, Gayle Palen of Alton and Patti Daniel and her husband David of Bethalto; his granddaughter Kate Collins, her husband Ryan, and their son Ryder; and her grandson, Corey Daniel and his children, Sydney, Dane and Sophie.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 3 at Paynic Home for Funerals from 10 a.m. until services begin at 11 a.m. Rev. John Tennyson will officiate.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
