Karl Michael “Mike” Phipps age 53 departed this life on December 8, 2010 at his residence. Mike as he was known was born on November 12, 1957 in Alton, he was the son of Barbara A. Phipps and the late Mitchell Slack Jr. Mike was educated in the Alton Parochial and Public Schools, graduating in 1975 from Alton Sr. High. He attended classes at SIUE for two years.
After Schooling Mike got a job with Alton Memorial Hospital for a number of years. He then worked in a couple of the Refineries for awhile being with Clark Oil for seven years. Karl really enjoyed sports. He enjoyed football, basketball, hunting, fishing and bowling.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by 4 sons. Karl M. Phipps Jr. of Des Plaines, Il., Christopher and Curtis Phipps of Alton; and Justin Caldwell of Decatur, Il.; a foster daughter Tierra Gill of St. Louis. Mo; 3 grand children Israel Phipps, Christina Phipps and J'Shawn Everage, 2 brothers, Terrance C. Phipps of Alton; and Ralph Slack of Racine WI; 2 sisters, Barbara McGee and Debbie Slack of Racine, WI;
He was preceeded in death by his father, his only daughter Leah Alexandra Precious Phipps
and his grand parents Leota Walker (Dumpty Stewart) and Robert Wilson, a special neice Catrena Edwards and a special nephew Terrance Phipps Jr. and a host of neices, nephews cousins and friends that will miss him dearly.
Visitation Monday 12-20-10 from 10.00 am until time of service at Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral Home in Alton
