William Orville Ellis, 87, died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. Born August 22, 1923 in Brinkley, Arkansas, he was the son of John W. and Oina (Fisher) Ellis.
He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and worked as a manager at several Clark Oil Service stations. He also sold real Estate for Don Bryant Realty. He married the former Delores Abernathy in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1977.
He married Thelma Stewart in 1978. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2010.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel and Irena Ellis of Cottage Hills, two step daughters, Dori Dobbs of St. Louis, MO and Jimmie Weirich of Godfrey, five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one sister, Lorraine Peters and her husband Martin of Wood River. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael William Ellis in 2004, one brother, Jim Ellis and one sister, Ruth Stassi.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church.
