Mary Lynn McWaters, 89, passed away peacefully, with family by her side at 11:31 am, Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 10, 1921, in Eddyville, Kentucky, the daughter of Lavada (Lady) Heater and Turner Heater Sr.
She married Lit McWaters on April 8, 1939. He passed away August 23, 1981.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law Martha and Tom Handy of Ridgefield, CT; a grand daughter, Michelle Handy of Darien, CT; and a grandson Brian Handy and his fiancé Cindy Kahramanidis of NewYork, NY. Additionally, are a niece Debbi Meyer of Godfrey, whom she loved as a second daughter; special niece Linda McGinnis of Newburgh, Indiana; multiple other wonderful nieces and nephews; and special neighbor Lee Westbrook.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary is preceded in death by 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 2, at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday December 3, at the Funeral Home with Pastor Andre Dobson officiating.
Burial will take place at Valhalla Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, where Mary was a member for over 30 years.
