Sister Dolores Marie Ramsey, aka Dolores Elizabeth Ramsey, died peacefully at the Ursuline Queen of Peace Infirmary on October 19, 2010 in Alton, Illinois.
The daughter of Rufus Ramsey and Isabelle Muren, she was born December 17, 1913, in Edwardsville, Illinois. She is the last of four children, her other siblings, Ernestine Pashea, Rufus Ramsey and Bill Ramsey preceding her in death. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Sister Dolores Marie was a graduate of Ursuline Academy and entered the Ursuline Sisters in January of l932. After professing her vows in July of l934, she studied at Springfield College in Illinois; Ursuline College in New Orleans, Louisiana; Webster College in St. Louis; and St. Louis University. She then earned a Masters’ degree at Notre Dame University. Throughout these studies, she was a superb teacher and a much loved school administrator, serving in Springfield and Decatur, Illinois; New Orleans, Louisiana; Frontenac, Minnesota; Santa Rosa, California; and San Antonio, Laredo, and Dallas, Texas. She came to Queen of Peace Health Care Center in Alton, Illinois from Dallas in the spring of 2004 where she spent her final years, celebrating there her 75th anniversary of committed service.
Sister gave her body to science through St. Louis University Medical School, and a Memorial Mass is planned for Saturday, October 30th at 10:00 at the Ursuline Convent Chapel, 845 Danforth Street, Alton, Illinois. Rev. Virgil Mank will preside.
