Dwight E. "Doggie" Sumner, 79, passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2010, at Eldercare of Alton. He was born the 2nd son of Lloyd and Elizabeth Sumner of Alton.

Dwight was a graduate of Alton High School and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired Real Estate Broker. He self published his book "Makin it to Nashville" in January of 2010.

A previous marriage to Reba Marie Tuetken, since divorced, produced a son, David Sumner, who was tragically killed previously.

Dwight is survived by a brother: Howell Sumner of Godfrey and The Villages, Florida, a sister and brother in law: Dottie and Don Koppenhaver of Henderson, Nevada, many nieces, nephews, cousins, a step - daughter: Carla Tuetken, and a step - son: Alan Tuetken.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: David, and a step son: Randy Tuetken.

There will be no visitation. Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Alton.
