Born Aug. 17, 1925 in Freeman Spur, Ill., he was the son of John and Helen (Nocek) Compa.
The U.S. Navy veteran served during World War II, and was a member of the East Alton American Legion, Post #794. He also had been a member of the Ring Hoedowners Square Dance Club.
He married Virginia Berg Aug. 27, 1949 in St. Louis. She passed away July 29, 2008.
He worked as a supervisor for McDonnell-Douglas, retiring in 1981 after 38 years.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Lanie Champa of Kirkwood, Mo. and Larry and Cheryl Champa of East Alton; four grandchildren, Lindy Moore and her husband Jake, Tracee Champa, Amanda Armon and her husband Keith, and Jennifer Champa; two sisters, Laura Scheidwind of California and Alice Nava of Fenton, Mo.; and a brother, Carl Siwik of St. Charles, Mo.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Walker, Martha Chisenhall, and Mildred Shelton; and two brothers, John and Joseph Champa.
Visitation will be Friday, March 5 from 4-8 p.m. at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6. Cremation and inurnment will follow.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
