Verna Boyd

Verna Boyd, 88, died at 10:02 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2010 at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey. Born February 2, 1921 in Harrisburg, IL, she was the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Crabbe) McGuire.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, IL. On February 5, 1939 in Harrisburg, she married Robert F. Boyd. He preceded her in death in 1988. Surviving is a daughter, Karen Shoemaker of Alton, three grandchildren; Kim Sutter, Nathan Shoemaker and Joann Richardson, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a sister, Kathleen Reynolds, one niece and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce McGuire and three sisters; Polly Petrusha, Beulah Rice and Blanche Zimmer.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor David Weimer will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation.
