He was a self employed carpenter, and enjoyed restoring antiques. He first married Lula Mae Meyer, and together they had seven children. He later married Aldyth "Gail" (Thompson) Crowe on Oct. 22, 1975, and together they have shared the past 34 years together.
Surviving are three sons & daughters in law, Dale & Pam Summers of Jerseyville, Charles & Barbie Summers of Rockbridge, William & Kim Summers of White Hall; four daughters & sons in law, Connie & Jim Preston of Casselberry, Fl., Paula Summers, Kathy Coulson and Rose & Shannon Williams all of Jerseyville; two step children & their spouses, Lori Crowe & Doug Smith of Jerseyville, and James & Lori Crowe of Grafton; 20 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren; a brother & sister in law, Donald & Loretta Summers of Branson, Mo.; and an aunt & uncle, Helen & Joseph Crawford of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by a step son, Mark Crowe; two sisters, Ova Wilson Lynn & Veronica "Bonnie" Webb; and two brothers, Robert Summers & Verlin "Bud" Summers.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the Grimes-Neeley Cemetery in Jerseyville with Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites. Memorials may be given to the Jersey County Veterans Assistance Commission.
