Dorothy Gabriel

Dorothy N. Gabriel, 67, passed away at 10:10am on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at her daughter's residence in Wood River with her family by her side. She was born on December 21, 1941 in Sorento, Illinois the daughter of the Charles File and Dorothy (Hemken) File of Lebanon, Illinois. She married Larry Gabriel in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1990. Survivors include four daughters and sons in law: Marilyn and David Davis of Litchfield, Illinois, Sarah and James Warren of Wood River, Illinois, Joyce and Mike Hyman of Wood River, Illinois, Dottie and Willie Warren of Medora, Illinois, one son and daughter in law: Rick and Thelma Gabriel of Godfrey, sixteen grandchildren, twenty - six great grandchildren, two expectant great grandchildren, two sisters: Patty Hancock of Litchfield, Illinois and Diann Warren of Jerseyville, and one brother and sister in law: Dwight and Judy File of Alton all survive.

She was formerly employed at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton for over 30 years as a transporter prior to her retirement in 2008. She was a member of the House of Victory Church in Cottage Hills. She loved Elvis, crocheting, and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her father, her husband, and one grandson: Ricky, and one granddaughter: Mary Nadine Gabriel.

Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at House of Victory Church, 20 Harvel Court, Cottage Hills, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 1:30pm on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at the church. Pastor Timothy Naylor will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, Illinois.

Memorials are suggested to BJC Hospice of Alton or House of Victory Church in Cottage Hills.
