Virginia Donofrio

Virginia E. "Jean" Donofrio, age 80, of Alton, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2009, 7:45 a.m. at Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia, Illinois, with family at her side.

She was born May 1, 1929 in Newark, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lucy (nee: Pagano) Serge.

She married Pietro "Pete" Donofrio on December 29, 1946.   He preceded her in death on October 2, 1995.  

She is survived and will be greatly missed by: a daughter and son in law: Aggie and Gary Nichols of Columbia, Illinois a son: David L. Donofrio of Alton, Illinois,; three grandchildren: Molly Maddox and husband Timothy of Ballwin, Missouri, Benjamin R. Nichols of St. Louis, Missouri, Brian J. Nichols of Columbia, Illinois, a sister and brother in law: Evelyn and Richard Witt of Alton, Illinois. Jean was also a loving Aunt to Rick and Brenda, Sandy, Mark, Shari and Russ, and was a special friend to many.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by: a son: Daniel P. Donofrio, and by a brother: Donald Serge.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 13, 2009, at Elias-Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m.

Interment will follow in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, Illinois

In honor of Jeans' love for children and pets, memorials may be made
to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a Humane Society of the donor's choice.
