Mary Evans

Mary Lou Moore Evans, 81, formerly of Holiday Shores passed away at 11:40am on Friday, May 8, 2009 at St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton. She was born on August 11, 1927 in Moline, Illinois the daughter of the late Rev. William B. and Evelyn D. (Wahlgren) Kelly. She married Donald J. Moore on March 3, 1951 and he preceded her in death on April 30, 1986. She then married Tharen Evans on June 27, 1992 and he survives. Other survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Linda L. Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Donna and Jerry Berning of Alton, two sons and daughters in law: Don and Vicki Moore of St. Peter's, Missouri, and Pastor Doug and Jeanne Moore of Bethalto. Eight grandchildren: Mary Johnson, Tim Johnson, Renee Berning, Adam Moore, Andrew Moore, Matthew Moore, Jonathan Moore, and Michael Skaggs, and six great grandchildren.

She was the secretary at the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene in Alton for several years. She was formerly employed at Senior Services Plus as a site manager prior to her retirement in 1991. She was a member of Living Word Worship Center in Alton. She enjoyed playing the organ and the piano.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband: Donald J. Moore.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Visitation will continue from 9:30am until time of funeral services at 10:30am on Friday, May 15, 2009 at Living Word Worship Center, 1015 Milton Road, Alton, Illinois. Pastor Doug Moore and Rev. Bob Prettyman will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
