John Kaufman

John J. Kaufman, age 62, went to be with the lord at 1:09 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born on October 26, 1946 in Nashville, IL, the son of the late Albert C. & Theresa (Averbeck) Kaufman.

He married Dorothy "Dot" M. (Gresham) on April 18, 1970 at OLQP in Bethalto. She survives.

John was employed at St. Louis Die Casting as a machinist for 18 years retiring in 2002. He was a member of OLQP in Bethalto, the Bethalto K of C council 4688 and he loved to bowl, fish and spend time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, two son's and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Carolyn Kaufman of Wood River and Brian & Brandi Kaufman of Glen Carbon; three grandchildren, Alexander Kaufman, Scott Weisser and Zachary Weisser; one brother and sister-in-law, Al & Carol Kaufman of Bethalto; two nieces, Michelle & husband Eric Douthat of Virginia and Angela Kaufman of Bethalto; four brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hammer & Doris Angel of Rockbridge, IL, Jim & Tina Gresham of AL, Marie Andrews of IA and Barb & Jim Stillwell of OK and friends, Roger & Pat Godar of Bethalto and Jim & Kathy Menke of Bethalto.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. by Fr. Tom Liebler.

Burial will be private at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Assoc. and or the American Cancer Soc.
