Adeline Stilwell

Adeline M. Stilwell, 98, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Heritage Manor in Gillespie, IL. Born February 22, 1917 in Alton, she was the daughter of Otto F. and Frieda (Keller) Wilkening. She married Paul J. Stilwell on December 10, 1939 in Alton. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2008. Mrs. Stilwell was a homemaker and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive. She was a choir member for over 50 years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alton and sang competitively in high school with her beautiful soprano voice. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard P. and Helen Stilwell of Mt. Olive, and Michael S. and Amanda Stilwell of Brighton. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Caroline Stilwell Apter of Ballwin, MO, Joseph P. Stilwell of Richmond Heights, MO, Jane E. Stilwell of Alton, and Evan M. Stilwell of Alton. Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Clarice Rose Wilkening in infancy, and Bernice A. Baker. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor Nancy Ribes will officiate.
