Mary Bazzell

Mary B. “Penny” Bazzell, age 66, of Alton, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2015, at her home after her battle with cancer.She was born July 5, 1949, in Alton, the daughter of Leonard J. and Marie M. (Blessent) Gross. Ms. Bazzell had worked for Norfolk-Southern Railways for 42 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.Mary had volunteered and done charity work for Catholic Charities and Haskell House. She enjoyed collecting art by local artists, gardening, reading, traveling to new places, and great movies. Her greatest joy was a good laugh and spending time with her family and friends. She was a positive uplifting inspiration to all!She is survived by three siblings and their spouses, Kay and Richard Cary of Houston, TX, and James L. and Kay Gross of Godfrey and Barbara “Bunny” Bohn of Alton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.She is preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Jacelynn Lennette, John Gross, and William J. Gross; brother-in-law Charles Bohn; and a daughter, Katie Bazzell.She would love for family and friends to join in a celebration of her life. Visitation will be held Friday, September 4, 2015 from 9:30 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr.
