Lucille J. Youngberg, 97, passed away 5:55 pm Monday, May 5, 2015 at Oak Terrace Nursing Home in Springfield.
She was born February 16, 1918, in Deer Plain, IL the daughter of the late Vern and Barbara (Arnold) Osborne.
Lucille graduated from Brussels High School and married Philip Youngberg on June 24, 1939 at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Alton and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2005.
She retired from the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. after thirty-six years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was the Past President of the Delta Council and served as Secretary for the Delta Life member Club. She was also the Secretary on the Lewis and Clark Foundation Board and won the Alexander Graham Bell Award in 1976 for her community service.
Mrs. Youngberg was also an honorary life member on the American Cancer Society Board, the Past President for St. Anthony’s hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the Ursuline Convent Auxiliary.
She is survived by a daughter and her husband, Lynn and John Kopatz of Chatham, IL; a grandson, Douglas Standerfer of Chicago; a brother, Clinton Osborne of Golden Eagle, IL; a sister, Ruth Roth of Godfrey; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, James Osborne; a brother-in-law, Francis Roth; and sisters-in-law, Lillian Osborne and Marie Roth.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Friday May 8, 2015 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey.
Burial will follow at upper Alton Cemetery.
