Raymond Manns

Raymond C. Manns, age 93, of Godfrey, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.He was born July 2, 1921, the son of William and Theresa (Wegener) Manns. He married Helen Novotny on September 23, 1950 at St. Alphonsus Church in Brighton, and she survives.Ray was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. He was an Army-Air Corps Veteran of WWII and retired from Mississippi Lime Co. after over forty years of service. Ray loved to paint and play piano, and sang in the church choir for over fifty years. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and bowling.In addition to his wife, Helen; he is survived by three children and their spouses, Mary and Ken Wendle of Alton, Susan and Tom Rizzo of The Woodlands, TX, and Bill and Ann Manns of Nashua, NH; a sister, Rosemary Graham of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, TJ, Brian, and Brigid Wendle, Tony, Laura and Amy Rizzo, and Evan and Claudia Manns; and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Donald and Gloria Manns, Harold and Marian Manns, Bob Manns, and “Doc” Graham.Visitation will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Fr. John Luong OMV officiating.Burial will take place in St. Patrick Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Mary’s Community Center on Milton Road.Memorials may be made to Marquette High School, or to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Masses.Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and a guestbook may be found at www.staten-fine.com.
