Rodney Dobe

Rodney (Rod) M. Dobe, age, 81 died Thursday April 9, 2015.  

Born July 4, 1933, in Cambridge, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Isabel (Frederickson) and Edwin Dobe.  

On July 28, 1956, he married the former Shirley Ann Petrie at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Pensacola, Florida.  She survives.  

Rod retired from the U.S. Air Force at Hamilton Air Force Base, CA, in February 1972, as a Senior Master Sergeant where he served in the gunnery and air traffic control fields.  He also retired  from U. S. Civil  Service at Scott AFB in March 1990, where he worked in airfield operations, airfield management, and as a financial manager.  He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto, Illinois.  Rod was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and bowling.  

Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Michael (Lisa) Dobe of Novelty, OH,  three daughters:  Kathleen Heart of Ladysmith, WI,  Dianne Lane of St. Louis MO,  Sheryl (Stuart) Beaton of Littleton, CO;  seven grandchildren:  Jennifer (Tom) Bernardson, Lisa Goodmanson, Matthew (Amyee) Delaney, Raymond and Stephen Lane, Mary Rose Dobe, and Abbey Gail Beaton;  three great grandsons:  Alexander Bailey, Jacob Goodmanson, and Connor Miller;  one sister: Idelle (John) Tapper of Houston, TX;  four sisters-in-law:  Jody Dobe of Cambridge MN, Janet (Robert, deceased) Ferris of New Berlin, WI, Dorothy (Wayland, deceased) Preder of Everett, WA, and Rosemary Pawlowski of Antioch CA;  two brothers-in-law:  Paul (Eileen) Petrie and Anthony (Barbara) Petrie of Hilbert, WI.  Rod is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by brothers Marvin and Leroy;  two brothers-in-law: Irving (Bertha) Petrie and Harold Petrie, and by four sisters-in-law: Marcella Petrie, Bernitta (Roman) Funk, Margaret (Robert) Schneider, and Alice (Gerhart) Krueger; and two sons-in-law: Robert Schroeder and Raymond Lane, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Monday April 13 from 5:00–7:00pm at Paynic Home for Funerals, 618 East Airline Drive in East Alton, Illinois.  The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday April 14 at 9:30am at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 132 Butcher Street in Bethalto, Illinois.  Internment will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church or The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
