Kenneth Wickenhauser

Kenneth H. Wickenhauser, 86, passed away at 7:35 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2015.

He was born in Alton, IL on March 5, 1928, the son of the late Herbert and Doris (Betzold) Wickenhauser.

On December 31, 1968, he married Bernadine (Svoboda) Urban. They enjoyed 46 years together.

Ken attended St. Mary’s grade school in Alton, Christian Brothers Military Academy (CBC) in St. Louis, and St. Louis University in St. Louis. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was president of Modern Plumbing and Heating Co. for many years. He served as president of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitters Contracting Association for four terms. He was past president of Easter Seal Society, member of Civil Air Patrol, member of Life Line Pilots and volunteered for St. Anthony’s Hospital for years. Ken served on the board of directors of Lockhaven Country Club for one term. He was Lockhaven’s golf club champion for three years. He received his private pilot’s license at the age of 16. He was a certified instrument flight instructor. He loved flying, fishing, playing golf, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Bernie; four children, Tim and (Marcia), Matt and (Sue), and Sherry Wickenhauser, Tess and (Bernie) Hanneken; six grandchildren, Kurt and (Erin), Anna, Mandi Wickenhauser, Kristin and (C.J.) Pilliod, Marlo and Sophia Hanneken; and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-brother, Vernon Schwartz.

Visitation will be from 9:00 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 31, 2015, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with Father Jim Walther officiating, assisted by Fr. Jerry Wickenhauser and Fr. Peter Donohoe.

Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.  

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Capital Fund, Masses, or to the Blind Veterans Association.
