Rita M. Thomure, age 81, formerly of West Alton, Mo, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015, surrounded by family
Mrs. Thomure was born February 13, 1933, in Alton, the daughter of John and Clara (Brunstein) Schenk. She was a graduate of Marquette High School in Alton. Rita had retired from Nine West where she had worked for many years as an accounting clerk.
Rita was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in West Alton. She was also a member of the Alton Moose Lodge. Playing softball was a favorite pastime of hers, and she had managed many girl’s teams in West Alton over the years. She was an Elvis fan and loved Cardinals Baseball.
She is survived by six daughters and two sons-in-law, Sherry and Tom Beckering of St. Peters, MO, Gail Bryant of Hannibal, MO, Robin Thomure of Hazelwood, MO, Tracey Hayes of Foristell, MO, Meta and Kevin Schaefer of St. Charles, MO, and Patty Stenger of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Charlotte Meyers and Dorothy Timmermeier, both of West Alton; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Gary Thomure.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 9:00 am until the time of Mass at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in West Alton with Fr. Robert Banken officiating.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of St. Louis, MO.
