A local Mardi Gras celebration is coming up Saturday, and offers a twist on the usual revelry. Worden’s Wordi Gras is billed as the town’s redneck take on the celebration. It all starts with a parade at 3pm that will take a longer route than in years past. That’s apparently because of the increasing popularity of the event.
The new route travels from Wall Street from Park Street to Drummond Street. You can enter a float if you are lined up by 2pm on Saw Mill Road at the five-way stop. Food and merchandise vendors will be located on Wall Street and will feature fare ranging from barbeque to Cajun. Beads will be available for purchase from the Metro East Humane Society at the parade. There will be plenty of bars in town keeping the party going well into the night, with most offering live music or DJ’s. For more information, call (618) 459-3215.
