Wood River has a new Mayor.  Due to Fred Ufert’s death last month, the city council was charged with picking a replacement from the existing city council members.  Frank Akers will fill out the remainder of Ufert’s term, which will end in April of 2017.

Akers tells The Big Z he viewed one of Mayor Ufert’s biggest accomplishments was to “convince, cajole, and occasionally push various factions to cooperate in the best interests of the city.”

Akers' appointment leaves a spot open on the city council.  He says there is no set time frame to pick a replacement.  When asked if Tony Roberts, who finished third in Tuesday’s election would be considered,

Akers will be sworn in at the April 20th City Council meeting.
