The United Way is spreading the word about local warming centers that are open for those that need to get out of the extreme cold this week. A handful of locations are available in the Riverbend during mostly daylight hours but the operating hours do vary by location.
United Way Manager of Marketing and Communications Natasha Sakovich tells the Big Z there are guidelines they follow before making the warming centers available:

Area warming centers include the Hayner Public Library locations in Alton, the East Alton, Wood River and Bethalto Public Libraries, the Alton Fire Stations, Senior Services Plus in Alton, Salvation Army in Alton, the Bethalto Village Hall and Riverbend Family Ministries in Wood River.
