The future of a local school district will be decided on election day. Voters in the Brooklyn School District will be asked if Lovejoy High School should be closed and students sent to East St. Louis Senior High School. Lovejoy High currently has about 30 students.
The proposal is a budget savings measure, although the Brooklyn School District will still have to pay the East St. Louis District to house the high school students. A community meeting was held last night to explain the options to voters and parents. If the voters decide that Lovejoy High should remain open, school officials would follow their wishes but warn they don’t have money for new improvements or to hire any new teachers. Election Day is November 4th.
