An Illinois State Police Trooper was found guilty of illegally strip-searching a man during a traffic stop in East St. Louis in 2013. 33-year-old Corey Alberson of Swansea, an 8 year veteran of the force, was found guilty of misdemeanor aggravated assault and will be sentenced next month. He is currently suspended without pay.
The incident took place on January 24 during a traffic stop on North 9th Street in East St. Louis in which Alberson believed drugs might be on the person he pulled over. Prosecutors in St. Clair County say he took Anthony Campbell's pants down without his consent and without approval from a supervisor. The incident was recorded on the dashboard camera of the trooper’s vehicle. Judge J.V. Fiss handed down the conviction, saying the officer acted without justification and without the property authority.
