An Illinois State Police trooper is facing felony charges after a traffic stop last January. 32 year old Corey Alberson of Swansea faced the charges in St. Clair County Court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to felony aggravated battery after being accused of performing a strip search on the side of the road in East St. Louis.
Alberson was arrested and posted bond, and he has been relieved of duty with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation and the legal process. During the traffic stop on January 21, 2013, the trooper is accused of pulling down the pants of the driver while questioning him and shining a flashlight on him while he was holding the man’s pants down. The driver was not charged with any crime. Alberson faces two to five years in jail if he is found guilty. The Illinois State Police is expected to issue a formal statement about the case sometime today.
