If you have an opinion on “What is Art?” you are invited to a forum of the same name in Alton Wednesday night.  Hosted by Jacoby Art Center at 627 E. Broadway, the forum is being held to engage the public in a discussion of what has become a controversial topic over the past week.

The reason for the controversy is the decision of the Alton Plan Commission to oppose a zoning change that would allow a tattoo shop to locate at the corner of Broadway and Henry Street.  Jacoby President Dennis Scarborough tells The Big Z they hope to have a productive discussion on Wednesday.

Supporters called tattoo parlors mainstream and a great way to attract new and younger people to see what Alton has to offer.  Opponents who spoke said they were mostly concerned by the perception of allowing a tattoo parlor in that part of Alton.   The forum will begin at 7pm, but Scarborough says the doors will open at 6:30, and he’s hoping for a large turnout.
